About

Schroedinger

Schroedinger split bamboo rods are carefully and thoughtfully made by hand, one at a time, by Henk Verhaar, in his rod workshop situated in the center of the Limburg hills, in the southernmost corner of the Netherlands. Henk lives at a mere stone’s throw away from the Geul, the only trout stream in the Netherlands, and has the Selzerbeek, one of the right tributaries of the Geul, right in his backyard. Henk has been wrapping rods for more than 40 years. Fly rods, spinning rods, casting rods and threadline rods. He had been contemplating making split bamboo rods for a long time, but was held back by the major investments in tools and time required for this. In 2016 he finally bit the bullet, acquired a planing form, some bamboo and a few tools, and started the long journey towards making flyrods and spinning rods out of tonkin bamboo. The name - Schroedinger - is a chemists’ inside joke, referring to the famous quantum ‘Gedankenexperiment’ with the cat in a closed room that is both alive and dead at the same time. For more information on that, see this link. But it also sounds appropriate for a rod brand…
